8 Bollywood Actors Who Romanced Their Real Sisters-In-Law In Reel Life

Ashok Kumar – Madhubala (Mahal & Howrah Bridge)

Actress Madhubala made her full-fledged screen appearance as a lead opposite the then superstar in Kamal Amrohi’s mega hit ‘Mahal’. Little did Ashok Kumar know that Madhubala will go on to marry his younger brother Kishore Kumar. Though, the pair was repeated again in Shakti Samanta’s ‘Howrah Bridge’, it was only after that that Madhubala did a few films with Kishore which became popular.

Raj Kapoor – Geeta Bali (Bawre Nain)

Kidar Sharma’s ‘Bawre Nain’ brought the pairing of Raj Kapoor and Geeta Bali for the first time on screen. Fresh from his ‘Aag’ and Barsaat’ success, Raj Kapoor was on a high whereas Geeta Bali was on her way to stardom. Songs from the film 'Sun Bairi Baalam Sach Bol Re' and 'Khayalon Mein Kisi Ke Is Tarah' are still heard on Radio stations. Geeta Bali later went on to marry Raj Kapoor’s younger brother Shammi Kapoor in 1955, who was still a struggling actor.

Randhir Kapoor – Neetu Singh (Dhongee, Heeralal Pannalal, Kasme Vaade)

Much before Neetu Singh married Randhir Kapoor’s younger brother Rishi Kapoor in 1980, she made her screen appearance as a leading lady opposite Randhir Kapoor in ‘Rikshawala’. The pair did manage to do five films in all together which also included ‘Dhongee’, ‘Heeralal Pannalal’, ‘Kasme Vaade’ and ‘Bhala Maanus’. But Neetu’s pairing with real life husband Rishi is considered as one of the best romantic pairs ever to hit the silver screen.

Rajesh Khanna – Simple Kapadia (Anurodh)

This one was a deliberate attempt by superstar Rajesh Khanna who wanted to launch his real life sister-in-law, Simple Kapadia. Though no sparks flew when they romantically appeared on screen together, it was Rajesh Khanna who was desperate for a hit as the Shakti Samanta directed ‘Anurodh’ didn’t do great business compared to his earlier hits.

Naseeruddin Shah – Supriya Pathak (Masoom)

Actress Supriya Pathak played a small role opposite Naseeruddin Shah in Shekhar Kapoor’s much acclaimed ‘Masoom’. Though Supriya wasn’t related to Naseeruddin at that point of time but later he married her sister Ratna Pathak and so technically he did romance his sister-in-law. The both did appear in a couple of films later in ‘Bazaar’ and ‘Mirch Masala’.

Anil Kapoor – Sridevi (Mr. India, Lamhe, Judaai)

One of the most popular screen couples to grace the silver screen. The pair of Anil Kapoor and Sridevi appeared together in nearly 14 films before she got married to his elder brother Boney Kapoor during the making of ‘Judaai’. Technically, the first film they did together was ‘Karma’ where Sridevi was paired opposite Jackie Shroff. It was ‘Mr. India’ which saw the pair romantically pitted opposite each other.

Saif Ali Khan – Karisma Kapoor (Hum Saath-Saath Hain)

It was Sooraj Barjatya’s tearjerker family drama ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’ (1999) which was the only instance where Saif was romantically paired opposite his future sister-in-law, Karisma Kapoor. It was thirteen years later that Saif got married to Karisma’s younger sister, Kareena Kapoor.

Ajay Devgn – Rani Mukerji (Chori Chori & LOC - Kargil)

Ajay Devgn’s lesser known comedy drama’s, ‘Chori Chori’ directed by Milan Luthria had him romancing his sister-in-law Rani Mukerji who is cousin to Kajol. The pair did appear together again in JP Dutta’s war epic, ‘LOC – Kargil’ in 2003 without much success.
